Making our way slowly, but surely through the last wave of casting, we have Nelson Abrego as Taurus Bull! I will admit in this instance I was wrong for closing the casting call early because I could have missed out on such a masterful performance. But luckily for me Nelson and I are constantly exchanging with one another and he asked if he could still submit and I was like, "yeah, of course, anyone who still had planned on doing so can still submit." And so he did and now several months later here we are. What can I say about Nelson's performance... It was really natural, it probably helps that he himself is Latino and bilingual, so if any of my high school Spanish or Google translate were off he was able to correct it. There's something so... almost eye-opening when you hear someone who can just naturally speak a language just the way the sentences flow, the pronunciation of the words. Taurus really feels authentic. Sometimes I worry that adding the flavor of character's native language might come off as forced, or like- nonsensical. But after hearing Nelson perform this role it all felt so natural to Taurus and who he is a as person that not having the those of Spanish would almost feel weirder. I mean I'm sort of at a loss of what to say to convey how perfect he is in this role. He's so passionate about the character and has been since day one. He's been such a massive supporter of the project. He's really one of the few VAs I could classify as a "friend" at this point with how often we talk and just about random things unrelated to PSA. He brings such warmth to the character as I had really wanted for Taurus. I wouldn't be so bold as to say no one else could have done the role justice, but I think Nelson is perfect for the role. And I definitely think PSA would have been a little less special without him in it as Taurus. Unfortunately for you all, you're going to have to wait to hear Taurus. But- I mean... I'll give you a consolation prize, you won't have to wait long to hear Nelson's talents in PSA. But for now, I'll keep this announcement short and sweet as there's no need to give Nelson a big head. So what I shall leave you all with is I am thrilled to have gotten to work with such a talented and passionate VA, and someone who's just a great person as well. It's been such a long time coming getting to announce this and I'm so excited we can just talk about it and share it with people. Because Nelson really worked hard on this role, he was so devoted in fact that he actually brought dumbells into his booth and worked out while recording just to be authentic to the action of the story. And listen, maybe you guys won't even be able to tell, but that's just a whole other layer of dedication that no one on the project has matched yet. That's just kind of crazy frankly, but I mean- I think that it genuinely probably did in fact add to that authenticity of the performance. How could it not? And I think if nothing else it just illustrates how (again) passionate Nelson is about his work and I suppose specifically this role and PSA as a whole. Like this man didn't need to be that extra, but he did it anyways. So just for that alone give this guy a medal of recognition or something. It's a poor reward, but Nelson Abrego welcome to Pleasant Sparkle Academy may you find fellowship getting your swole on with the other gym bros.
