I am so excited to announce that David Sylvester Wolf! Shall be playing the role of Alberich Alfrikr Jr. the Svartalfar prince and school store manager. It's been a while since we've done one of these so let's just jump on into it! As you may remember from the Fenrir voice acting announcement I mentioned that there were only two voice actors who attempted Norse accents for both Fenrir and Alberich. David was one of those men. The thing I loved so much about David's performance for Alberich was just the tone of his voice. It's interesting doing this project because all my actors are remote, working out of their own home studios. So naturally, everyone's audio quality is just a little bit different. It's all good quality, but the acoustics and tones are all different. Some are similar some are not. Now I always knew this would be the case, and I always knew that there was no way I was going to be able to make it sound like these 100+ actors recorded in the same booth with the same setup. I made peace with that a long time ago. My philosophy has always been as long as I can play the audio side by side and they both sound professional that's all that matters. Some people are going to crucify me for the different audio tones and tell me how I should have done x, y, and z through the casting process. And how I should have hired an audio engineer and all this crap. But this is my project and if it bothers you that much turn off the voice acting. Anyways, the reason I bring this all up is because David comes from a podcast background and a music background. And the way he records himself makes his podcasting background very apparent. And it really makes his performance stand out. It's like ASMR. Which I love for Alberich. When you combine the accent plus this very like I said ASMR quality just something about. It really adds to the character, because Alberich is someone in the game sort of caters to ASMR in a way the others don't. It's kind of hard to describe, but I think when you guys get the chance to hear David's performance it'll all make sense. There really was no better choice for Alberich. And don't get me wrong there were plenty of great takes on the character, but again David's take just had something special to it. You hear him speak and your ears perk up it's very capturing and just draws you in. The way he speaks too, he takes his time and there's a cadence that's just a little different. He really lets lines breathe, he doesn't speak like an actor. Which I think is to his benefit he speaks like someone relaying information, someone who is sort of methodical in what they say. Which given Alberich's backstory makes sense, when you hear him speak you can tell he's weighing his words. When you combine all these things you really get a character who feels otherworldly. And not in this daunting, larger-than-life sort of way. But in the way that it's apparent he's not of your world and it's intriguing. It really is something. He just sounds so different from everyone else. I really wish I could be articulate just exactly what it is this performance makes you feel and why it's so good. Dave makes Alberich tangible and yet reminds you that he's impossible. The character doesn't sound stereotypical or what you'd maybe expect, it's not really the conventional choice. He doesn't sound like Gimli, or some other pop-culture Dwarf. It just sounds authentic, and different and special. Really I am so incredibly excited by this performance and so grateful I got to work with David. Unfortunately, you guys will have to wait until at least the alpha version of the demo to be completed before you can hear David's work. But I promise it's amazing. Well, I guess I should stop blabbering and wrap it up. David Wolf, welcome to Pleasant Sparkle Academy!
