Hello, Students! Last evening I uploaded to Youtube a playthrough of the First Encounter event for the Chimp Gang as a sort of "this is the game, this is what to expect." Sort of thing. And I wanted to take the opportunity to just really talk about it. It's been a while since I've really sat and talked about anything PSA. And things around here have been chaotic, but progressing.
So to start out with, why lead with this event? To be honest, because I had all the core assets for it finished. All the chimps have been fully written and recorded, all their artwork is done. The second thing was this event is kind of self-contained so I could program it and then when the time was right just easily connect it to the rest of the game with like a few pieces of programming. What I'm trying to say is it would be just as easy to implement now as it would be down the line where the event actually takes place. Thirdly was because unlike the first hour which is programmed, this one has quite a bit of dialogue options that affect AP (affection point) stats and has branching paths within the event. Hour 1 does, but I feel like I was juggling a lot less. So it was sort of a good event to really make sure I could keep track of and efficiently juggle all this stuff. The next big reason is I wanted to have something to show that wouldn't really spoil the demo because this isn't included and has all these dialogue options and most importantly was the most complete. This seemed like a good thing to put out so people who've been following can see that stuff is getting done and they can know what to expect. And since this event isn't in the demo it doesn't matter if I show it off. And lastly, I was excited about it and since only a couple of the chimp performances have been shown publicly, this seemed like a great way to show off the talent of the cast without sharing what could actually be considered spoiler dialogue.
So that's really all I have to say about it. It's still in a beta stage, a background or two needs to be completed, some audio implemented, and audio leveling still needs a little work. I also have to play test it a little more just to make sure it all completely works and I like the flow of everything. Once it's 100% done I might give it to friends and the voice actors for any feedback they want to give me on it. But for now please enjoy this if you already haven't!
