“The Genie of The Lamp” some may call him, but he’ll vehemently dispute it, the “Genie” part not the- not the part about the lamp. He once served the legendary Aladdin, but has years have gone by and grown countless ownership of his lamp has traded hands several times. And now he finds himself in service to a spoiled, rich, boy by the name of Bastien Blouin who’s father is an oil tycoon. And because of P.S.A.’s stringent rule of, “a student aid, must also be a student” he has found himself a student of the school as well. A fact he finds horribly degrading given the magical power he possesses, a power he is unable to freely use as he is slave to the whims of his master. He couldn’t so much as conjure an apple without Bastien’s request; so even though he is one of the most adept magic users in the school, if not the most adept magic user in the school, he wouldn’t be able to show it. Over the years he’s grown cold and distant, tired of having no autonomy. So any wishes he does actually grant always have a drawback, a cost. So Bastien never actually asks anything of him, but his companionship. Despite him wanting nothing to do with Humans, or frankly anyone, he’s a talker. He especially loves talking about himself. Even thou cursed and bound to an old oil lamp, he still holds himself in high regard and superiority. The only creature he gets along with is his fellow Djinn, Ghazali which makes sense since they both served Aladdin those many, many moons ago. Zubyar isn’t likely to win any “partner of the year awards.” Centuries of oppression have left him spiteful, mean, and a kafir. But… that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to get on his good side, though it does mean you may find yourself having to embrace your own darker side. Or maybe, you’d just need to show one monumentous act of compassion. Regardless in order to get to know him beyond what he shows will require you to make nice with Bastien, or- by some miracle become his master yourself.
Either way, maybe best to be careful what you wish for when he’s around.
