Character Reveal: Steve Mallette

Steve Mallette or as those around the school call him “Mothman Jr.” is the son of the original “Mothman” of Point Pleasant, West Virginia.

While it is his second year at P.S.A. socializing still doesn’t come naturally to him and therefore is still a bit awkward when conversing with others. He also is a bit of a pathological liar… So most people who know him just assume anything he says is a lie at this point. It goes without saying. He has no friends. Though it’s not shocking to see him talking with The Chimp Gang from time to time talking gossip. Unbeknownst to him, but pretty much everyone else, the gang more or less just uses him for the spread of information, as he can’t keep a secret to save his life. Steve uses gossip as a means to converse and feel momentarily interesting before succumbing to his insecurities and throwing out lies about himself; or at least that’s what one could infer.

He doesn’t seem all that happy, which isn’t shocking. If you have no friends and constantly feel the need to lie to get others to like you how could you be? Then again- some people who do that are possibly at least content, lying as more of a means to obtain what they want. A sociopath would fit this definition. Though one shouldn’t flippantly throw around that label, nor use it as a means to induce fear or excitement. It’s possible Steve is a sociopath… It would be hard-pressed to say for sure via simple observation from afar. Context is key, does he lie due to insecurities? Or does he lie as a means to get what he wants and lacks any sort of empathy? No one at P.S.A. knows him from any school prior to this one, so it would seem that P.S.A. is in fact the first school he has ever intended.

Being that Steve has grown up in the digital age, he’s quite the fan of “dank memes” and self-deprecating humor. It’s hard to say what his genuine interests are as he seems to like any and everything everyone else does. He’s a bit like a parrot in that way, it’s not unheard of to hear him speak one opinion with one group of people and then entirely the opposite with another.

Someone would argue that perhaps Steve Mallette is actually the number one most enigmatic student at P.S.A. One thing is for sure the only way you’re going to be able to truly know who he is, is through careful conversation, deductive reasoning, and a cunning tongue.
